The thought of having a test of any kind can leave some people feeling a little apprehensive. This is perfectly understandable and, if this applies to you, you’re not alone. However, when it comes to a hearing test at The Hearing Center of Dublin ENT, we have plenty of reassurance to offer you that will make you feel at ease about the process. Once you understand the benefits, we hope that you will be eager to come and visit us to identify and meet your hearing needs.

How do you know when to book a hearing test?

Sometimes, hearing loss is sudden and caused by an injury or illness. In these cases, you will experience a clear difference in your hearing abilities and you know for certain that you need a hearing test.

In other cases, the loss happens over time, so it can be hard to judge how poor your hearing is in comparison to what it was before. If you find yourself missing bits of conversation because they aren’t clear enough or you hear music or TV sounds as muffled, you probably need a hearing test.

If you are unsure, it’s ok to get yourself checked out just in case. Hearing tests are quick, easy and painless.

What happens during a hearing test?

The goal of a hearing test is to determine the range of your hearing abilities. This might be related to volume, pitch or your ability to distinguish sounds. Some people can hear single sounds but have trouble separating sounds from one another when there is a lot of noise going on.

All these levels and more are reviewed during a hearing test.

To make the test as accurate as possible, you need to be in a soundproof booth so that noises from the environment cannot skew the results. You’ll be asked to indicate when you hear certain noises.

We’ll give you clear instructions on what you need to do. There is no right or wrong in this test and you do not need to feel under any pressure. We’ll check the results straight away and give you information on what we have found.

This may lead to recommendations for further tests, treatment possibilities or equipment that will enhance your ability to hear.

A big part of our job at Hearing Center Dublin is to ensure that you feel at ease during your hearing test. The process is designed to help you get any hearing support you need to improve your quality of life.
